# Apps, projects, and product surfaces

| Concept          | What it means for you                                                                                             |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **App**          | The shared blueprint: tools, data structure, pages, forms, roles, automations, settings                           |
| **Project**      | An isolated workspace for that app (its own database and files). Useful for different clients or environments     |
| **Build mode**   | Where you and the AI design and change the blueprint                                                              |
| **Chat mode**    | Where people use what you already built (including portal chat)                                                   |
| **Preview**      | Try the customer experience as any role without inviting a real person (sidebar **Preview**, then **Preview as**) |
| **Portal**       | Where your customers sign in (separate from your builder login)                                                   |
| **General chat** | Help from GenieForge without an app open. It does not build or change an app by itself                            |

You can export and import an app blueprint. If Marketplace is available in your account, you can also publish and install apps. Customer data and chat history live in the project; they are not part of the portable blueprint.

In the builder sidebar, **App Blueprint** is the shared recipe. Under each project you will see things like Chats, Files, Tables, End-Users, Signals, Feedback, Communications, and Executions for that project only.
